Southern Austria

The natural jewels of southern Austria

Gentle, green mountain ridges and rugged, majestic mountain peaks. Crystal-clear swimming lakes and wild gorges. Species-rich, old cultural landscapes and wild riparian forests.

This is where a relaxed attitude to life meets great natural treasures: Southern Austria!

In the south of Austria, the highest mountains in Austria meet a hilly landscape influenced by the Mediterranean. This creates an incredible mosaic of diverse habitats in a small space. Carinthia is home to the huge Central Alps with their glaciers, marmots and waterfalls, but also the Southern Limestone Alps with their rugged mountain peaks, emerald streams and deep gorges. In between there are unique alpine meadows on green mountain ridges and crystal-clear, fjord-like lakes. In southern Styria and Burgenland this transitions into a gentle hilly landscape with vineyards, orchards, species-rich deciduous forests, crossed by leisurely flowing rivers. On this unique nature trip we will explore the most exciting, often little-known natural jewels of southern Austria, experience breathtaking panoramas and enjoy typical food and drinks.

We hike to mountain peaks in the Hohe Tauern National Park, with a herbal specialist across the alpine meadows of the Nockberge, and through the vineyards of southern Styria. We spend the night in the most natural Alpine valley in Europe, walk along the turquoise-green Weissensee, explore little-known deciduous forest relics in the Central Alps and a deep gorge in the Limestone Alps. We cycle along the “Amazon of Europe”, glide in a canoe through a natural river landscape, and end our journey with the best chocolate in Austria. All this and much more in a small group of max. 8 participants, led by highly qualified biologists or wilderness guides.
